Donna Sylver, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) with over twenty years of diverse financial experience. Her work history encompasses six previous CFO roles, along with various other financial leadership responsibilities in industries such as manufacturing, banking, aviation, and a broad range of other services, including consulting, legal, healthcare, software, and communications. Proven areas of expertise include: strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting; investor relations; bankruptcy/turnaround management; mergers/acquisitions/divestures; accounting & treasury; payroll; financial reporting; information technology; risk management; and financing.
Named one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking by U.S. Banker, Sylver has been a seminar discussion leader for Executive Education Inc., a frequent invited speaker at regional and national conferences, seminars, and workshops in the financial services industry, and has been featured in several publications. She is also the recipient of the North Carolina’s Career Mastered Leadership Award, Triangle Business Journal’s prestigious Women in Business Award, Triangle United Way Women’s Leadership Council Award, Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award, Professional Women’s Network Inspiration Award, and The Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce Circle of Influence Diversity Award.
Sylver holds a MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a B.S. in Accounting from North Carolina Wesleyan College (NCWC), and a Project Management certification from American Management Association. Memberships include Financial Executives International, American Woman’s Society of CPAs, Financial Women International, the National Association of Female Executives, the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), and the North Carolina Association of CPAs (NCACPA).
Sylver has served on the board of trustees of NCWC as a member of the Finance and Audit Committees. She also served on the Advisory Board of the North Carolina Capital Management Trust. Additionally, she was a past member and Treasurer of the boards of directors of My Sister's House (a domestic violence shelter), Freedom Community Development Corporation, and St. Joseph Historic Foundation. Her past committee service includes Vice Chair of the NCACPA Financial Literacy Council, member of the AICPA Depository Institutions Expert Panel, the American Bankers Association Securities and Exchange Commission and Corporate Governance Committee, the MBank Council, the Business Development Subcommittee of the Parrish Street (Black Wall Street) Advocacy Group, the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) Oversight Committee, and the 10-Year Results Plan to End Homelessness in Durham Project Committee. She is committed to community service, evidenced in contributions and volunteerism.
